Sun Country Airlines’ Baggage Policy

• If you have a standard fare, you can bring one personal carry-on bag for free. The bag should not be bigger than 43 x 33 x 22.9cm (17 x 13 x 9in).
  • If you want to travel with a regular-sized carry-on bag:
    • You can pay USD 30 if you book online, USD 38 if you book through a call center or online after booking, or USD 45 if you pay at the airport.   
    • Your bag should weigh no more than 35 pounds (15.9 kilograms) and be no larger than 61 x 40.5 x 28 centimeters (24 x 16 x 11 inches). 
    • Babies sitting on laps are not allowed to bring any carry-on items. 
• Sun Country doesn’t provide any free allowance for checked baggage.
  • You need to pay between USD 30 to 45 for your first checked bag, which should not weigh more than 50lb/23kg. The price may vary depending on when and how you buy your baggage allowance. 
  • If your checked bag is bigger than 158cm/62in when you measure it with the wheels and handles included, you will have to pay extra fees for oversized baggage.
  • If your bag weighs between 51-60lb, you will be charged USD 20 for overweight baggage fees. If your bag weighs between 61-100lb, you will be charged USD 60 for overweight baggage fees. Bags that weigh more than 100 pounds or 45.45 kilograms will not be allowed.
  • If your bag is larger than 158cm/62in when you add up the length, width, and height, you will have to pay a fee of USD 100 per bag. Bags that are larger than 203.2cm/80in will not be allowed.
• Baggage fee waivers
  • If you are a U.S. military member traveling for official reasons, you can bring 2 checked bags and 1 overhead carry-on bag for free. You can also bring 2 oversized bags without paying a fee.
  • If you have a Sun Country Airlines Visa Signature Card or if you’re traveling with someone who does and you’re on the same reservation, you can get a 50% discount on your first bag if you buy it online or through Sun Country’s contact center.

About Sun Country Airlines Checked Baggage Policy 

Sun Country doesn’t let you check bags for free. Instead, you have to pay for your checked bags. If you buy your bags ahead of time, you can save time at the airport by printing and bringing a copy of your e-mail ticket. 

Some Points to be Remember:

• If you have 4 or more bags to check, you can call Sun Country Reservations at or make plans at the airport check-in desk.
• Size and Weight Restrictions
  • Overweight fees will be charged for checked bags that weigh more than 50lb/23kg.
    • We cannot accept bags that weigh more than 100 pounds or 45.45 kilograms. 
    • If your flight is going to or coming from St. Martin, Bahamas, Jamaica, or Puerto Rico, please note that bags that weigh more than 70lb/31.81kg will not be allowed. 
  • Your checked bag should not be larger than 158cm/62in (including wheels and handles) in total linear dimensions. We cannot accept bags that are larger than 203.2cm/80in.
• Make sure to write your name clearly on your luggage.

  • If your carry-on luggage is too big for the measuring bag at the airport, it will be checked in and you will have to pay extra fees.

Checked Baggage Fee Waivers

Sun Country offers a baggage fee waiver to the passengers listed below:

• If you’re a U.S. military personnel traveling for official reasons, you can bring 2 checked bags and 1 overhead carry-on bag for free. They don’t have to pay extra fees for the first 2 checked bags if they are oversized.
• If you have a Sun Country Airlines Visa Signature Card and you’re traveling with others on the same booking, you can get a 50% discount on your first bag. Just make sure to buy your bag online or through a call center.

Excess Baggage Fees 

If you have bags that are too heavy or too big, you will have to pay extra money. The amount you have to pay is listed below: 

• Overweight bags that weigh between 23 kg and 60 kg will be charged an extra USD 20.
• Overweight bags that weigh between 61 and 100 pounds (27.7 and 45 kilograms) will be charged an extra USD 60.
• Extra-large bags 
• A fee of USD 100 will be added to bags whose total linear measurements are more than 160cm/63in.

Weight and Size Limits

• On any Sun Country trip, you can’t bring bags that weigh more than 100lb/45.45kg.
• On trips from or to Jamaica and Puerto Rico, checked bags that weigh more than 70 pounds (45.45 kg) will not be allowed.
• No flight will take checked bags that are longer than 203.2cm (80in).

Note:

During Check-in, if your name is mismatched, you will face an issue, and sometimes you will miss your flight. In this case, you must know how to change the name on a flight ticket.

Sporting Equipment Policy

• Most sports equipment, except for what’s listed below, is included in your paid baggage limit, so you can use it instead of one checked bag. If you have more than the number of bags you paid for, or if they are overweight or too big, you will have to pay extra. 
• The following sports equipment can be used instead of one checked bag (anything over the limit will cost extra per bag):
  • Golfing Equipment
  • Sports Bags, comprising softball, hockey sticks, baseball equipment, lacrosse equipment, bowling equipment, dance equipment, etc.

    • 1 bowling ball
    • 1 bowling bag

  • 1 pair of well-packed fishing boots.
  • Skiing equipment, which includes a ski bag with:
    • 1 pair of skis
    • 1 pair of ski poles
    • 1 pair of ski bindings
    • 1 pair of ski boots
  • Hockey equipment, which includes a hockey bag with up to five hockey sticks tied together. 
  • Lacrosse equipment, including a bag with up to two lacrosse sticks that are tied together.

Sporting Equipment Treated as Oversized Bags

The following pieces of sports equipment are considered large bags and will cost you an extra USD 75:

• Scuba Diving Equipment,  which includes:
  • 1 regulator 
  • 1 pressure gauge
  • 2 fins
  • 1 mask
  • 1 snorkel
  • 1 knife
  • 1 spear gun
• The length of a surfboard, kiteboard, or wakeboard cannot be more than 5 feet.
• Windsurfing equipment, which includes:
  • 1 board for sailing (with a wooden boom)
  • 1 mast that is no taller than 5 feet 
  • 1 sail
• Bicycles must be racing bikes that don’t have motors and only have one seat.
