What is the check-in time for my Sun Country Airlines flight?

• Online Check-in Time: You can check in online for planes within the 50 U.S. states from 24 hours to 1 hour before takeoff. 
• Kiosk Check-in Time: At St. Thomas, STT, you can check in at a booth up to 90 minutes before your flight leaves.
• Airport Counter Check-in Time: Airport counters open 3 hours before a flight leaves and close 45 minutes before a flight leaves in the United States and 60 minutes before a flight leaves in other foreign airports.

Methods of Check-in and Restrictions

Online Method:

Sun Country Airlines lets you check in online 24 hours before your flight and up to 1 hour before it leaves. 

Follow these steps to check in online at Sun Country Airlines’ website or mobile site:

• Visit SunCountry.com.
• Click on the tab labeled “Check-in,” as shown above.
• Type in your last name and the reservation number.
• Follow the directions on the screen to check-in.

Exceptions

At U.S. airports, check-in desks close 45 minutes before a flight leaves, and at foreign airports, they close 60 minutes before a flight leaves, with the following exceptions:

• The departure from Los Angeles (LAX) is in 60 minutes.
• The departure from St. Thomas (STT) is in 90 minutes.

Note: Once you have checked in online, you need to download or print your boarding pass and present it at the airport. To travel outside of the U.S., you must provide your passport information beforehand. You can do this by accessing My Trips or during online check-in. Make sure your passport is valid for at least 90 days after the last travel date on your booking. 

Also, ensure that your name and date of birth on your passport match the information on your ticket exactly. Once you check-in, you’ll have to confirm your passport by scanning it at the airport kiosk, ticket counter, or boarding gate. 

When can’t I check in online for my flight?

If you need to check in at the airport counter:

• You didn’t get your boarding pass either by downloading or printing it.
• You are traveling with a baby/babies.
• You are traveling alone as a minor.
• You are traveling with a pet.
• You are sitting in a seat located near an exit.
• Your reservation is for 10 or more people.

Kiosk Check-in 

You can check in at an airport kiosk up to 60 minutes before your flight departs. If you’re flying from St. Thomas (STT), you can check in up to 90 minutes before your flight. You can find self-service check-in kiosks at most U.S. airports. They let you check in for your flight, choose your seat or upgrade it, and buy baggage, no matter where you’re going. 

To pay for seat selections/upgrades and baggage purchases, you need to use a credit card.

Note:

• If you have a personal item or overhead bag with you, go to security right after getting your boarding pass from the kiosk. 
• If you have luggage to check, go to the bag drop counter, leave your bags there, and then go to security.

Why can’t I use the self-service check-in kiosk to check in?

• You are traveling to another country. 
• You are traveling with kids. 
• You are a child traveling alone. 
• You are sitting in a seat located near an emergency exit.

Airport Counter Check-in

At U.S. airports, counters are open 3 hours to 45 minutes before a flight leaves, and at foreign airports, they are open up to 60 minutes before a flight leaves, with the following exceptions:

• The counters at the Los Angeles (LAX) airport close an hour before a flight.
• At St. Thomas (STT) airport, the counters close 90 minutes before a flight leaves.

When do I need to be at the gate to get on the plane?

To get on your flight, you must be at the gate:

• At least 30 minutes before internal flights within the U.S., but at least 60 minutes before if you’re traveling with a battery-powered wheelchair or other mobility device.
• At least an hour before an overseas flight leaves.

When does the door to the plane shut?

The entry door for Sun Country Airlines closes 10 minutes before the plane leaves. If you’re late, you won’t be able to get on your trip, and you may have to pay change or cancellation fees. 

Note: Starting May 3, 2023, people who are 18 or older must have a valid form of ID, like a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license.

Sun Country Airlines Pet Policy

According to Sun Country Pet Policy, Airlines allows only small dogs and cats in the cabin. However, passengers with disabilities are allowed to bring their service animals. You can’t bring your pets on international flights, flights to/from Anchorage, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico. You also can’t check them in as baggage or cargo.
